Cancer has turned out to be the third largest disease leading to death around the globe. Research indicates that every year about 6 million people die because of this disease and the number is just increasing with time. Presently, there is an increase of 22% in the death statistics, which has triggered extensive research for finding a method that would actually help in fighting against this menace.

Gold Nanoparticles Fighting Cancer- Is it Possible?

Just like any other nanoparticles, the Au nanoparticles are distinct form of nano particles crafted using the nanotechnology. These particles are measured under the nanoscale and are known for their proper shape, size and properties. The first form of nanparticle that are evaluated from gold was actually, gold nanospheres, which later gave birth to gold nanoshells, gold nanorods and gold nanocages subsequently.

There is one type of gold nanowhich is known for its amazing property called the Excellent Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering, or SERS. This is the property that helps in treating cancer. Now, the robustness, sensitivity and multiplexing of these particles are quite high when compared to other gold nano particles. They hold superior performance in the matrix of the blood and thus can detect the protruding cancer cells right from the scratch and eradicate them in no time.

Therefore, utilizing these particles for treating cancer holds immense potential and this is why there are many renowned health centers that have adapted this form of gold nanotechnology for processes like molecular diagnosis, molecular imaging, bioinformatics, and targeted therapy too.
